Introduction the Series

Self Life Coaching can be life changing. It is truly amazing that doing a few exercises can create so much self awareness and enlightenment. You can change your daily focuses and over time change big things for the better in your life. Yes, self life coaching has done that for me.
What is a life coach?
According to Oxford, “a life coach is someone that councils and encourages on matters having to do with careers or personal challenges.” In my experience it is someone that helps bring to awareness of changes and qualities so they can be implemented. Where therapy is driven by the therapist as the expert, in life coaching, the client is the expert on their own life. The coach draws out and brings to the surface what the client truly wants. The coach then facilitates the client to take the necessary steps towards accomplishing what they have chosen to do.
Life-coach or therapist?
I must mention here that if you are really struggling in an area or all of your life- please get a professional therapist. Life coaching doesn’t heal serious needs. Life coaching can help healthy people be even better than before. I am a huge fan of both therapy and life coaching but they don’t serve the same purpose at all. So if you need therapy, please please please find a good therapist (it won’t be as fun as highlighting a life wheel but…). It is so worth doing the work you need to there. If you think you may need therapy, go that route (with a good therapist ?) and come back here when you are ready.
My life coaching story
About ten years ago, I was chosen to be “Life-Coached” by a professional as an example for a team of direct-sales people. The coach and I then reported to the group on the business and person outcomes of the coaching sessions. Since that good experience, I have been repeating many of the exercises myself. Doing this each new year has helped me see where I needed to focus my time and energy.
I believe so fully in looking at my life and the life-coaching process that I even went so far as to take classes to become a life-coach. Talk about learning ALOT! I did stop short of getting “certified” in life-coaching by going through the process. It was evident to me that my gifts and creative expression were leading me down a different road. I was meant to be sharing about my passion for beauty and order in the home as well as creating events for celebrating lives….and so Two Story Tudor was born.

What is self life coaching?
I “life coach myself” by going through exercises and looking at the topics that this Self Life Coach Series will address. This is what I mean when I say, “Self Life Coach”- self directing yourself through this process. Self Life Coaching doesn’t replace actual Life Coaching, but you can see where this takes you for free. For example knowing your highest values and your priorities can help you say a firmer “no” when asked to run for PTA President. It can also make your “YESes” that much more right and you will be more fully committed to these.
As you progress and follow along these exercises, there will be questions that I’ll basically ask you to ask yourself. This is the type of thing a life coach would do. As you get comfortable with these areas you will be able to draw your own conclusions and have much greater clarity.
Accountability
One thing that self life coaching may not be able to give you, that regular life coaching can is accountability. Accountability is HUGE with a life coach- if you have a person asking you how you did eating more vegetables last week, you are more apt to eat more vegetables. Since self life coaching can’t give you accountability, I strongly encourage you to find a friend and do this Self Life Coach Series with them and be accountability partners.

Self life coach workbook
*You may want to contain all these exercises in my free workbook. You can then find them all together to refer to over & over from year to year. Somethings will change, many won’t. See below for the Self-Life-Coach Workbook sign up box so you can document and review this entire process.

Time for life coach process
This series of blog posts are going to help you look at your life. It will include exercises I strongly encourage you to try. You can put as much time as you have into each. Generally they will take 30-60 minutes each. You can dig deep if you are ready or you can just skim the surface if that is what you can currently handle. Either way, you will benefit in some way. I have also offered this series as a retreat get-a-way to a spa, message me if you are interested in this.
Congratulations! You will learn more about yourself, realize and work towards your dreams, make changes and be changed. You will realize your values and articulate your purpose. I want to hear about it too! Tell me where this takes you in the comments. Here’s to your journey!
On your self life coach way!
Our process will take you from getting all the “stuff” out, dreaming like on a cloud, discovering your true vision and ending with a fulfilled heart and life that you love. Bear with me step by step and we will get somewhere beautiful together. Ok ready, let’s get going!
